How wonderful it is that the study of consciousness has swung from psychoanalytic interpretation to a cognitive psychological perspective. We are now able to investigate the what, where, and why correlating to conscious experience.

It is my belief that vision affords us a particularly opportune modality to allow the exploration of consciousness as a whole. My honours project is investigating the fate of information that is just below the limen of consciousness. Building off of previous work, and with the use of backwards masking, I will try demonstrate that the most basic object features (form, orientation, and size) are able to influence conscious experience despite being rendered perceptually ‘invisible’.
