I’ve always had an interest in perception and consciousness, both in terms of gaining greater understanding of these complex topics, but also in the subjectivity of each individual’s experience. Equally fascinating to me is how our perceptions can be tricked, so I have always enjoyed illusions. My honours project is based on the heavily studied but not fully understood, size-weight illusion (SWI), a phenomenon where of two differently sized, but equally weighted objects, the smaller feels heaviest.
